At misfits dog training we believe that An ethical and open-minded approach is essential to creating lasting results in dog training.

Our goal is to provide structure, balance, and harmony to help your dog reach their full potential and create a lasting bond between your and your dog.

We use a combination of positive and negative reinforcement at the beginning of the training process, as well as figuring out what motivates your dog, to enhance their learning capabilities. Once the foundation is established, we use a variety of training tools, including slip leads, prong collars, and e-collars, to bring your dog's training to the next level and generalize these behaviors to new environments.

Our training approach is flexible and adaptable to meet the unique needs of each individual dog. We strive to ensure that every dog has the opportunity to excel and make living with them a truly enjoyable experience.

MEET THE TEAM

Zoe Jean

TRAINER, CO-OWNER & CPCN (Certified Professional Canine Nutritionist)

Zoe originally became interested in dog training when she was hired as a dog trainer at Petco right out of high school. While her passion for dogs grew stronger she also learned a basic understanding of how to teach manners to dogs. From there Zoe became active in the rescue community, taking in foster dogs in need of training and volunteering for transports to get animals out of high-kill shelters. Her first dog Scully was also teaching her a lot at the time. While Scully’s obedience was great she was highly reactive to people and other dogs, which led her to seek more knowledge and eventually realize that training was her passion.

Zoe attended Starmark Academy where she learned how to teach basic and advanced obedience, behavior modification, advanced pet CPR and canine first aid, agility, scent detection and personal protection. With all of the  knowledge she could need to start her career Zoe was immediately hired on by one of the highest rated dog training companies in Denver. While working as a full-time private trainer Zoe continued to work in rescue and take on rehabilitation cases, dogs that showed signs of aggression and would likely be put down without intensive training.

Her heart still lies in rescue work and she loves being able to help owners make the best of their lives with their canine companions. Misfits Dog Training was started to help those dogs that may be deemed “un-trainable”, but to also support puppies and dogs that just need a little help being the best pet dogs they can be.

John Lightfoot

HEAD TRAINER & CO-OWNER

John has always loved dogs, but it wasn’t until his dad’s German Shepherd Zeus became a menace on leash that he found his calling for working dogs. He reached out to a trainer, found the tools that worked for Zeus and realized how rewarding dog training can be.

Once John moved from Florida to Colorado he immediately looked for more education on behavior and protection dog training, shadowing several trainers including Zoe. John has since found his calling for helping dogs reach their full potential mentally and physically and is a certified canine strength and conditioning coach. He specializes in preventing injury, maintaining peak performance in working dogs and helping pet dogs loose weight and reach optimal health. He believes finding what your dog truly loves and watching them hit their full potential is the most rewarding moment as a dog owner.
